Rita L. Berry, M.Ed., Ed.S., LCMHC – North Carolina

Qualifications

I have worked as a counselor in a variety of professional settings for over 35 years. I earned a Master of Education degree in Community and Agency Counseling from Winthrop University in 1990. In 1994, I earned an Educational Specialist degree (Ed.S.) in Counselor Education from the University of South Carolina.

I became a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in the state of North Carolina in 2003 and maintain my licensure in accordance with state and professional requirements.

Counseling Services & Theoretical Orientation

I primarily provide counseling services to adults, with a focus on supporting women who are experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm.

Services may include:

  • Treatment planning

  • Individual therapy (primarily via telehealth)

My therapeutic approach is integrative and may include elements of:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Reality Therapy

  • Brief Solution-Focused Therapy

  • Supportive and insight-oriented counseling

Treatment is collaborative and tailored to the unique needs and goals of each client.

Session Length & Fees

Individual therapy sessions are typically 50–60 minutes in length.

  • Standard session fee: $150 per session

  • I am in-network with select private insurance plans

  • As a courtesy, insurance claims may be submitted on your behalf when applicable

  • Any required copayments, coinsurance, or deductibles are due at the time of service

Accepted forms of payment include:

  • Credit and debit cards

  • HSA cards

  • Cash (when applicable)

Use of Diagnosis

When insurance is used, most insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to determine eligibility for reimbursement. Some concerns that bring individuals to counseling may not meet criteria for a reimbursable diagnosis.

If a diagnosis is appropriate in your case:

  • It will be discussed with you prior to submission

  • It becomes part of your permanent medical and insurance record

You are encouraged to ask questions about diagnosis, documentation, or insurance implications at any time.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is an essential part of the counseling relationship. Information shared in counseling is kept confidential and becomes part of your clinical record, which you may request access to in accordance with applicable laws.

Confidentiality may be broken only under the following circumstances:

  • You provide written authorization to release information

  • There is concern that you may be a danger to yourself or others

  • There is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult

  • Disclosure is required by law or court order
